Austrias einzig international renommierter Jazz DJ, der Wahlwiener Tom Wieland gibt sich diesen Sa 27.1. zusammen mit Gastgeber Alexander Ach Schuh die Ehre in der Filmbar in der Augustinerstraße.

Seit mehr als zwei Dekaden kuratiert, compiliert & produziert Tom Wieland im Zeichen des Neu Jazz, bringt nebenbei Gilles Petersons Worldwide Radio Show zu FM 4 und umrundet als weltweit gebuchter DJ mehrmals den Globus.

Das paßt ja auch irgendwie zu einem studierten Geographen, der für einen rare russische Jazz Schallplatte auch schon mal hinter den Ural fliegt oder sein neuestes Album Projekt „Sound Voyage“ ganz der Fusion von klassischer Thai Musik, Electronica, selbstgemachten Field recordings & Kraut Jazz widmet.

Roots of Nu Jazz | Part 3 | The 1970s Jazz Experiment | Welcome to another journey through a wide spectrum of styles, from soul/jazz, modal and funk to african, latin and soul music. My selection focuses on jazz releases of the early 1970s. All tracks were recorded between 1969 and 1977 and mainly issued on small lables like Black Jazz, Tribe, Groove Merchant, Milestone, PM Records. Donald Byrds “Fancy Free” and Wayne Shorters “Odyssey of Isaka” are two outstanding productions of Blue Note at the end of the 1960s, which found not many followers in the Blue Note catalog.

Musik ist vielleicht etwas, was wir nur gemeinsam »besitzen« können. Eine Spurensuche in der Geschichte des Jazz zeigt die tänzerische Tendenz der Musik selbst als Ausweichungs- und Aneignungsbewegung. Ausgehend von Herbie Manns 1960 erschienen Album “The Common Ground” habe ich eine Playlist von prototypischen Einspielungen zusammengestellt, die den flüchtigen Besitztitel der Musik mit der Erinnerung an traditionelle Lieder und perkussiv präzis verortbarer Intensität weitergeben. Eine Gabe, die eine Einladung ist, zum Zuhören, das sich immer auch als Erinnern des Dazugehörens versteht und weiterentwickeln kann.
